The Mazda CX-9 will be out fairly soon. This means that, like Volvo, Mazda will only have 4-cyl vehicles in their US lineup. The CX-9's top engine will be a turbocharged 2.5L inline four making 250 hp (227 hp if using sub-Premium fuel) and 310 lb-ft of torque. On a positive note, the CX-9 was the last non-SkyActiv Mazda in the lineup, so whoo! By the way, I hear that Subaru has already sent in its application to join the US Chapter of the “ 4-Cylinder Only Club .”

Kind of sad, even if it’s (mostly) for a good reason. My dad recently sold his ‘15 Kia Sorento and moved to a ‘14 Honda Pilot because he missed V6 smoothness — and he’s not even really a car guy.
I recently switched from an Accord V6 to a new GTI and it’s about 90% as smooth so I’m not missing my old car nearly as much as my dad did. Probably helps that my new car is more fun to drive.

I’m still amazed by this switch to turbocharged motors. It’s going to get especially interesting now that more common cars are switching to forced induction. Tuning economy cars just became so much more viable.
